Bringing home a new puppy? Congrats!   But don’t forget—puppyhood is the most important time for setting the foundation for lifelong health.

1. Start Primary Vet Visits Early

Schedule the first checkup at 6–8 weeks. Begin vaccinations, deworming, and flea/tick prevention right away.

 2. Stick to a Vaccine Schedule

Puppies need a series of vaccines (every 3–4 weeks until ~16 weeks old) to stay protected from serious diseases like parvo and distemper.

 3. Feed Puppy-Specific Food

Choose a high-quality puppy formula rich in protein and essential nutrients to support healthy growth.

 4. Socialize Early & Often

Expose your puppy to new people, places, and other animals (safely!) between 8–16 weeks for confident behavior later.

 5. Start Training Right Away

Use positive reinforcement. Teach basic commands, crate training, and potty training consistently and patiently.

 6. Puppy-Proof Your Home

Keep harmful items like cords, plants, and small objects out of reach.

 7. Give Them Plenty of Rest

Puppies need 18–20 hours of sleep a day. Let them nap often!

 8. Chew Toys Are a Must

Teething puppies need safe things to chew on. This saves your furniture—and soothes their gums.

 9. Use a Collar with ID Tag

Accidents happen. An ID tag (and eventually a microchip) is crucial in case they get lost.

 10. Love & Patience Go a Long Way

Raising a puppy takes time and care. Be patient—they’re learning!
